Kenya Safaris
Here at Away2Africa we asked our Kenya Safaris Specialist what she believes, in her 20 years plus experience of Africa and specifically Kenya, whats are the Top Tips to experience a truly memorable visit to Kenya. We have listed Sarahs answers below.
The Migration
A sight to remember There’s nothing quite like the spectacle of the Migration:Kenya Safaris two million or so animals making their way across the plains. So, if you’re there between July and October and get the chance to witness it, grab it with both hands. We guarantee it’ll remain with you forever.
Crossing the Mara River
Crocodile crossing It’s one thing watching wildebeest, gazelles, zebras et al walking across the plains in unimaginable numbers to find better grazing – but believe it or not, it gets better. To see so many animals cross the Mara River – which incidentlly is infested with crocodiles – is truly a chance in a lifetime. It’s like watching a David Attenborough programme for real!
Mara Balloon Safari
Up, up and away! As if safari wasn’t spectacular already, it can reach a whole new level – literally! The Mara is the ideal location for taking a hot air balloon and getting a different perspective on wildlife, floating gracefully over the treetops at dawn. The flight is silent so you don’t disturb them, for an even better view. All followed by a Champagne breakfast and game drive back to camp – unforgettable!
Born Free - Elsa’s Lair
Elsa’s lair It’s a smaller reserve and off the main tourism circuit, but Meru is one of Kenya’s best game areas. It was home to the lioness Elsa; subject of the book and film Born Free. It’s stunning, with endless horizons, many rivers and few tourists. Even if you don’t know the story of the cub raised by the Adamsons and released into the wild, don’t miss the setting.
See Africa differently
I’m seeing stars Set in the beautiful Rift Valley, luxe safari lodge Loisaba’s philosophy is all about helping you see the world differently. So their adventures are a little more imaginative than most – such as trekking through the bush with camels, or sleeping under the stars on the lodges exclusive star beds. Built on raised platforms in the bush and partially covered, it’s a fantastic experience you’ll never forget.
...the downsides
Millions of tourists a year visit Kenya. It’s only natural, given the wealth of wildlife it offers, but it also means that some places can get rather busy. You needn’t worry with Away2Africa though. We love the country and know it very well – so we can take you to the Kenya you’ve seen in wildlife programmes.
